I was woken up on Saturday by a WhatsApp from a high-powered American Queenager in New York City: “We have a new CEO, she’s 60! I’m SO relieved!”
The CEO she was talking about wasCindy Rose, currently COO Global Enterprise at Microsoft, who has just been appointed Global Chief of advertising and communications giant WPP.
My pal was thrilled because she is approaching the big six-zero herself and has been paranoid for a while that having clung on through her 50s, reaching her seventh decade might spell the end of her very successful career. The appointment of Rose eased her mind.
And the good news is that Rose is not the only one. In fact 2 of the companies who are actively seeking midlife female applicants whom we feature on this newsletter today ALSO have female CEOs or Founders. Take a bowRosaleen Blair, who was the Founder of recruitment conglomerate AMS.
Now we’re not saying that just because they have an older female CEO that they get it about females and midlife and how we want to power up our ambitions, not ramp them down…but let’s just say it probably helps (a lot!).

Yes to female leadership!
We know that gendered ageism is all too real in the job market. The massive online recruiterWorkday has just been rapped over the knuckles by US Courts for its ageist algorithms. So having bosses who realise what great hires Queenagers are (because they are in that demographic themselves) can’t hurt.
And we need as many female CEOs as we can get. Despite being 51% of the population, women currently hold only 9 of the CEO gigs in the UK FTSE 100, and only 55 of the Fortune 500 CEO roles in the US. Meaning that at the top, female leadership is stuck at around 10% – about what it has been at for the last 20 years. There has been abitof an improvement, but it is glacial!
But we’ll take what we can get.
While some of us might be clocking off for the summer holidays, here at NOON (and with our partners 55/Redefined who support our Jobs Board) we know that real life doesn’t stop and for midlife female jobseekers, there is no time like the present. Which is why we are delighted to share some really cracking vacancies with you (take it as a little summer holiday sunshine, an unexpected present from us).

Maybe like many Queenagers you are craving a bit of face-to-face interaction after years of online work? Why not get trained to become afield interviewer. There’s no better way to build your confidence after a break. They have vacancies in more than 100 locations nationwide.
