Eleanor Mills: Top keynote speaker and expert on midlife

Eleanor Mills speaking

Eleanor Mills is known as one of the best keynote speakers in the UK for corporates.

“Great delivery and engagement. A brilliant keynote–BT

A journalist, author, founder of NOON and the UK’s premier expert on ‘midlife’, Eleanor delivers speeches described as inspiring, topical and entertaining. After a very successful career as one of the top journalists and editors in UK media, she founded NOON, a platform with a community of 100k+ midlife women – aka ‘Queenagers’ – to change the narrative around ageing. After all, in the 100-year-life, 50 is only halfway through. It’s noon – it’s only lunchtime!

She uses this journey to inspire audiences to make the most of their own lives. Her speeches have been described as ‘inspiring’, ‘brilliant’ and ‘entertaining’ by everyone from Barclays to BT.

We’re all going to live much longer than we think – but are still stuck in old paradigms, affects everything from how companies think about staff to how we deal with an intergenerational workforce to the power of older consumers.

“An engaging and vibrant speaker who captures attention and always leaves the audience wanting more” –FT

“Outstanding. Content and delivery were absolutely on point–Lloyds Bank

Eleanor is passionate about the fact that midlife isn’t a crisis but a chrysalis, it’s a time when having lived by everyone else’s rules for decades, we finally get to become the people we always wanted to be. Building on this mission, her first book on midlife, Much More to Come: Lessons on the Mayhem and Magnificence of Midlife published by HarperCollins (June 2024) was a Times bestseller.

Prior to setting up NOON, Eleanor worked as a journalist at News International, as Editorial Director of The Sunday Times and the award-winning Editor of The Sunday Times Magazine. She served as Chair of Women in Journalism UK from 2014 to 2021.

“Inspired”

–BP

Known as one of the most high-profile editors of her generation, and a top flight interviewer, she has interrogated everyone from Mikhail Gorbachev to Sheryl Sandberg, David Cameron to One Direction, Theresa May to the Dalai Lama.

Eleanor appears regularly as a high-profile columnist and interviewer for UK newspapers and magazines. She also regularly appears as a broadcaster on TV and radio.

Older consumers outspend millennials by 250%. Women over 50 now control 60% of wealth and 75% of all discretionary spending, as well as making 95% of ALL household consumer spending decisions. So why do these crucial older consumers only appear in less than 10% of adverts? Why are they too often overlooked, or when they do appear portrayed in out of date archetypes?

Too much of our thinking about age is static. But brands without an age strategy don’t have a growth strategy. As the demographic and financial landscape shifts it is imperative to harness the power of ‘Super Consumers’? But how does your company do that? What do midlife consumers want and what turns them off? How can you tap into what Sheryl Sandberg calls the “most lucrative and under-served cohort in the whole of marketing’? How do you equip your work force with the insights to appeal to these crucial customers?

“Amazing. We loved her speech and were inspired” –CNN

Using insights from NOON’s proprietary research (conducted for Accenture, HSBC and Mishcon De Reya), as a top keynote speaker Eleanor provides essential insights on how to entice and embrace the power of the midlife pound.

How do we deal with massive moments of change? When everything we’ve built has gone, and the future terrifies us? How do we learn to conquer fear and embrace uncertainty? How can we lean into to the idea that in the chaos is also the possibility of something better… that change though scary, may actually bring a magnificent outcome? How do we hold steady through the changes so we can land happily on the other side.

Midlife crisis is real: divorce, bereavement, redundancy, the death of parents, troubled youth, health issues. Drawing on her personal transformation and the experience of helping thousands of midlifers to re-invent, Eleanor explains what it takes to master the art of the pivot (whether that is a professional or personal one), and become the people we’ve always wanted to be.

In a world where many offices are usually silent, where many colleagues virtually never speak and basic conversational skills are in short supply, it has NEVER been more important to sing the song of yourself well. After all, when promotions happen, the discussions take place in a room where you are not. For you to get that big new job someone has to tell a convincing story about why YOU should get it, and that story can only be as good as the story you’ve sown.

Many of us find it hard to tell a good story about who and what we are. Use the lessons Eleanor has learned from interviewing some of the most successful people on the planet, to sing the punchiest, pithiest, most powerful song of yourself. And just see what that can open up for you and your work force.

What does your boss really know about you? How do you communicate passion and purpose? Eleanor reveals her ‘Mills Matrix’ – that crucial plait of your personal, professional and purpose journey, so that whether it’s networking, LinkedIn, or a precious moment with a decision maker, you too can become a world class storyteller and unlock your full potential.
