More about Rough Patch
Kathy settled into her Kathy experienced marauding pigs, transformed via insights from planting leeks, enjoyed recipes from an unchecked courgette glut and discovered why a radish seed is worth staying alive for.
The result is a candid, hopeful and sometimes funny story about the healing powers of nature. It’s a quiet manifesto for a more connected life.
About Kathy Slack
Jobless and dysfunctional, Kathy found solace in the garden. Despite her haphazard care and wandering attention, the seeds grew and her family ate their first homegrown meal. She was hooked. Kathy was global strategy director for a London advertising agency but left that London life for the Cotswolds in 2012 where she retrained as a chef and began a new career. Now she grows vegetables, creates recipes and hosts monthly supper clubs and teaches cookery classes.
She won The Young British Foodies Vegetable award and the Soil Association Best Blog award in 2019. She has also been shortlisted for a Garden Media Guild Award and won a Guild of Food Writers Award. Her debut cookbook, From the Veg Patch, came out in 2021 and was named one of Delicious Magazine’s top cookbooks of 2021.
She writes regularly for The Simple Things magazine, Borough Market’s Market Life, OcadoLife and others. Find more of her writing and free weekly recipes on her Substack.
